Home Learning
• Home Learning includes nightly reading of 20-30 minutes. This can include being read to by a parent.
• Reading Log. Please be sure to record minutes for each night. Have your child bring his/her home learning folder to school each day to help develop the habit. At the end of the month, you can help your child add the total minutes up and turn in the sheet for your child to receive home learning credit.
• Bring back Friday folder on Monday mornings.
• Dreambox is an excellent resource for those children that want to do math at home. The most important thing to know is that you should not help your child with the math concepts, as Dreambox is designed to create a just right math program for your child. This means that if your child is not ready for a particular concept, the app will adjust to your child to find the just right level. If you do the math, the program will adjust to your level. Additionally, if an older sibling, friend or cousin help, the same thing will happen and your child will not be working at his/her just right level. You can support your child by saying, “use the help button and keep trying.” If the frustration gets too high, ask your child to take a break from it, and let me know so I can help your child at school. An added bonus is that Dreambox is a “green” alternative.
