Mrs. Hammer's Logistics
The most important thing to know about me: your child is my number one focus!!
I value your child and my teaching time with them.
The following procedures have proven successful over the years, and I appreciate your support in following them.
Morning Routines
• Before the start of school, your child needs to place his/her backpack by the classroom and go play on the playground where there is supervision.
• If the classroom door is open, your child may come in to read. If the door is closed, your child needs to go play on the playground.
Communication between Teacher and Parents
(During the day I am engaged with the children). • A written note or e-mail is best.
• If your message is time sensitive, please send a hand written note with your child.
• I am done reading email by 7:00am each day, and will not read email again until the children go home for the day.
•If it is really important to reach me during the school day,
please go through the front office.
Communication with Your Child at School
• Please do not “drop by” the classroom to deliver a message. • Please do not wait outside classroom door.
• Please leave forgotten lunches at the office.
Pick up
• Try to use the same pick up location each day if you can.
•If your child is going home with someone else then you MUST provide a note.
Home Learning
• We are developing a love of reading and responsibility habit in second grade.
• Reading practice with on level “just right” books (brought home in red book bags) and then free choice (20-30 minutes each night)
• Math practice by choice: Dreambox is a great source for those that want to do more math. It is designed to challenge your child at just the right level.
Home Learning when ill
• If your child feels well enough, please have your child read.
• I will give him/her any missed work when he/she returns to school.
Behavior Systems
• Classroom Agreements for behavior
• Class Points activity (we vote on an activity when we get to 30 points)
• Non-violent communication for conflict resolution: aka “giraffe talk”
Absences
• Planned: email the school at [email protected], or call the school. • Unplanned: email or call the school.
Missed schoolwork because of a family trip
Since what we do in class cannot be duplicated in a handout or worksheet, or without directions from the teacher, here are some acceptable and appropriate activities while your child is gone. Have your child read each day. In addition, they can practice math facts with flash cards or games that you know. If your child likes to write, they can keep a journal about the trip. When your child returns to school, I will support them as he/she “catch up.” I will decide what is the most important since catching up and participating in new instruction at the same time can be challenging. Please remember that I have your child’s best interest at heart.
• VERY IMPORTANT: If your child must leave before the school day is over, you must sign your child out at the office before you leave campus. The secretary will call the classroom to ask that your child be sent to the office.
Please do not come to the classroom to pick him/her up.
No candy policy
Please do not send candy to school. I do not allow candy in class, as per the Wellness Policy at MUS. Also, please do not send a birthday treat on your child’s birthday. That includes balloons.
• Student-Parent Handbook: Please refer to the handbook for important information. • School’s website: A wealth of information.
Thanks for your support!
